Come down to the Arts Centre and watch ceramic artist, Sabrina Boulay, while she works on a large scale coil pot. Coiling pottery was one of the primary potting methods prior to the development of pottery wheels. Coil pots are sturdy in large forms and have been used for thousands of years across the globe.

Demonstrations will be held at the Vernon Community Arts Centre on Sunday, September 24th between 12:30-1:30pm, and Monday, September 25th, 4:30-5:30pm. If weather permits, we will be outside on the front lawn of the Arts Centre.

Join us for an artist talk with Jam, and learn about their creative journey.

Driven by a search for moments of reflection and emotional release, Jam’s studio work features a ritualistic use of a spiral motif as the grounding point for various material explorations. Flowing between 2D and 3D forms of making, they are interested in embodying themes of organic growth and connection while also exploring the dualistic qualities of fragility and strength that are often present in their work.

Drop into the Vernon Community Arts Centre on Monday, October 4th, from 6:30-8:30. No registration required.

Donations are welcomed and will support future community arts programming.

“Form and Figure – A Human Viewpoint”, is an exhibit that seeks to offer a tasteful representation of the human figure and celebrate its beauty, diversity, and complexity. Our hope in offering this show was to provide an opportunity for artists to find creative ways to portray the human figure and for viewers to engage with works of art in a meaningful way.

From the realistic to the abstract, the human figure has intrigued and inspired artists throughout centuries and across cultures. It offers us insight into the range and intricacy of our emotions, and allows us to express beliefs, tell stories, and explore what it means to be human.

This show features several works from VCAC’s self-directed Life Drawing Classes, and a diverse selection of works from members of the Arts Council of the North Okanagan.

Join us for a fun & FREE printmaking activity!

Drop into the Vernon Community Arts Centre on Monday, October 2nd, between 11:00 and 2:00, and make your own Sundog Festival creation!

Unleash your creativity and explore the world of screen printing. In celebration of Culture Days, and Vernon’s new Sundog Festival, we’ll be using the Sundog logo for our design. Please bring a cotton or cotton blend t-shirt, tote bag or bandana that you want to the imprint the design on. We will then guide you step by step through the screen-printing process. Be prepared to take your creation away wet. When it dries the next day, you can iron it to set the print and enjoy! No registration necessary.

Donations are welcomed and will support future community arts programming.

Learn about the art of Japanese printmaking from a fan of woodblock printing. Adrian will share some of his favourite prints and some history during a 30-minute art talk. Mainly focusing on works from Japan, he will touch on the well-known Ukiyo (which includes Hokusai and Hiroshige), but dive deeper into the 20th century Shin Hanga, Sosaku Hanga, & Meiji eras. Adrian will close the talk with a view of some of the woodblock prints from Vienna of the same time. What he lacks in academic art knowledge is made up in enthusiasm. A fun and fact filled evening, come on down!

Art talk will be held at the Vernon Community Arts Centre on Wednesday, September 27th between 7:30-8:00pm, with time for questions afterwards.

Event is FREE.

Come for a FREE demonstration on how to create handbound books that can be used for journals, sketchbooks, or zines. Local artist Silmara Emde will demonstrate the basics of bookbinding using tools and papers you already have around your home.
