norsu
Indie rock darlings from Vernon BC
Rein Fichtner – guitar, lead vocals
Taiyo Nishihara – bass, vocals
Steve Nishi – lead guitar, vocals
Jayden Bouzane – drums
Beginning as closet recordings by songwriter Rein Fichtner, norsu released “Songs From my Basement” a four song EP in April of 2022. In the fall of 2023 norsu became a four-piece band with the additions of Steve Nishi on guitar, Jayden Bouzane on drums, and Taiyo Nishihara on bass guitar. They’ve spent much of the last few years (both solo and as a full band) playing shows across the Okanagan valley and around BC, from coffee shops and back-door punk venues to Silverstar Mountain Resort and Sundog Festival in 2023, having played with the likes of Down The Lees, The Boom Booms, The Jins, and Chastity.
In May of 2024 they were the recipient of Creative BC’s demo recording grant. Together they then built upon the sound of “Songs From my Basement”. Influenced by ‘00s alternative indie bands, ‘70s folk-rock and jazz fusion as well as Australian indie rock from the 2010s, they wrote new music and recorded their first album at Holy Cow Studio in Kamloops BC. “THE BASEMENT SWEET” became a mix of brand new songs and reimagined versions of three tracks on “Songs From my Basement”. norsu released THE BASEMENT SWEET in November of 2024 along with a music video for their song “amateur hour”. Norsu is currently in the process of writing new material, and are on track to release new music soon.

Wyatt C. Louis
Walking the line between genres like an easy path rather than a tightrope, carried by textural and ethereal songs lifted up by stunning vocals, Wyatt C. Louis’ debut album Chandler refers to simply their middle name. Louis (they/he), a Plains Cree singer-songwriter born and raised in parts of Treaty Six, now lives in Moh’kinstsís (Blackfoot name for Calgary) and lets that amalgamation of place shine through on these tracks, some of which came to life in the quiet and contemplative days of deep pandemic lockdown.
Out via Royal Mountain Records on May 24th, Chandler is suffused with a soft comfort that glows with feelings of familiarity and ease. Recorded at singer-songwriter and producer Phenix Warren’s studio, Alta Sound, with Colin Carbonera on hand as a producer/engineer, and tracks featuring Wild Pink and City and Colour’s Matt Kelly, Louis found levity through collaboration. A new experience, the result is upbeat yet cozy, the kind of songs that show off Louis’ contradictions of paying homage to the country music ingrained in the geography of their childhood, with an indie and roots spin that makes it something different.
