Lights, Camera, Action: The Ultimate Film Showdown!

Get ready to immerse yourself in the magic of cinema as we proudly present the first ever Okanagan 48 Hour Film Project Screening Night! Be among the first to witness the cinematic brilliance of 13 short films, all brought to life by local filmmakers in a heart-pounding 48-hour race against the clock.

These 13 teams hail from different corners of British Columbia, including Vernon, Salmon Arm, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Vancouver. They’re vying for prestigious awards like Best Film, Best Directing, Best Writing and Acting.

This event serves as an invaluable opportunity for our local filmmaking talents to showcase their skills, not only at the local level but on the world stage. The winner of the Best Film award at our local competition secures a screening position at Filmapalooza in Lisbon, Portugal in March 2024 and is eligible for a chance to grace the prestigious screens of the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner!

It all began when 13 eager teams gathered on Friday, September 15th, for the Kickoff Event. They drew genres from a hat and discovered the essential film elements: a prop, a character, and a line of dialogue. At the stroke of 7:00 PM, they embarked on a whirlwind journey of writing, directing, shooting, editing, and more. Their mission: create a seven-minute masterpieces by 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 17th.

Tonight, the magic unfolds as their creations grace the big screen. And you, the audience, have the power to choose your favorite. The Audience Choice Award which will be announced on Saturday, October 14, 2023, during the thrilling Best-Of Awards Night. 

The 48 Hour Film Project is not limited to our city; it’s a global phenomenon! Taking place on different weekends across 100 cities in 45 countries throughout the year, the Best Film from each city earns its place at the illustrious international film festival, Filmapalooza, set to unfold in Lisbon, Portugal in March 2024. Additionally, it stands a chance to be showcased at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner!
