If you don’t know this emerging artist, well get to know and remember this name – Missy D. This femcee has been rapping since she was 11 years old in French and English coming from the 3 corners of the motherland (Rwanda, Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe). Missy D calls it Rap & Soul. You might also catch her on stage alongside Sejal Lal with their duo Laydy Jams. Missy is a bilingual Hip Hop, Rap & Soul Artist who makes music as a form of therapy to express all the feelings, share a message and connect with listeners. It is a fusion of sounds of her childhood from french melodies to r&b, soul, jazz, hip hop, rock and rap legends. It’s all for the culture and for us. She wants to speak for them, sing for them, and empower folks with love and music. You will hear the sounds of MC Solaar, Diams, Erykah Badu, India Arie, J.Cole, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, and Stromae echoing through her voice. Headlining at Sundog Fest Kick-Off Weekend – Friday Night!

Friday Sept 19, 9:00pm at Civic Memorial Park, Vernon BC

A contemporary Indigenous fusion woven together with elements of hip hop, rock/folk, righteous rhymes and rich harmonies, carried through with experience, manifestation, and visions of intergenerational stories of pain and healing. The Melawmen Collective brings a uniqueness to their sound like no other, drawing in a wide variety of listeners through sharing their own journeys of life through their musical evolution together. ‘Melawmen’ means medicine in the Secwepemc language, and the unceded territory of the Secwepemc People in what is know known as BC, is where members Meeka Morgan (vocals, Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth), Rob Hall (Vocals, Ghengis Ghandi’s, Ashcroft), Geo Ignace aka Geo The Voice (Vocals, Secwepemc/Cree), and Kiva Morgan-Hall (Vocals, Secwepemc/Nuu-Chah-Nulth), continue to grow.  Joined by the heartfelt rhythm of Cass Gregg (Bass, Ts’ilcotin), and Victor Last (Drums, Republic of Chile).
